Hair transformations are exciting — and like most exciting things, they’re even better when the timing is right. Whether you’re planning a new colour direction, your first set of extensions, or a significant cut, here’s what we know about when Queenstown clients get the best results.
Book Before Major Events, Not the Day Before
If you have a significant event — a wedding, a holiday, a milestone birthday — the ideal time to book a transformation is 2–4 weeks before the event. This gives you time for any adjustments, toning, or follow-up if needed, and allows the style to settle into its most natural and beautiful state. Booking the day before a major event is high-pressure for everyone involved.
The Seasonal Logic of Hair Colour
Many clients time their colour changes seasonally, and there’s logic to it. Early spring (September/October in NZ) is popular for lightening — clients want sun-kissed tones for summer. Autumn (March/April) is popular for going richer and darker — brunettes, warm chestnuts, and deep tones that feel right for the cooler months ahead. There’s no wrong time to change your colour, but working with the season rather than against it tends to feel more natural.
Queenstown’s Booking Patterns
Queenstown’s tourism peaks affect salon availability. School holidays, ski season, and the summer visitor period (December-February) are our busiest times. If you want a prime appointment during these periods, booking 3–4 weeks in advance is strongly recommended. Outside of peak periods, we can often accommodate appointments more quickly.
Don’t Wait Too Long
The best time to book your transformation is when you feel ready — which is probably right now. Clients who wait for the “perfect moment” often wait much longer than they needed to. Book your transformation consultation at Iron + Ivy today.
