At Iron + Ivy Hair Studio in Queenstown, hair extensions are priced at your consultation, because the cost depends on how much hair you need. As a guide, weft extensions start around $600 to $1,500 installed, and K-tip or I-tip bonded extensions run $1,200 to $2,500 for a full head using Great Lengths or Bellami hair. Maintenance appointments every 6 to 12 weeks add $300 to $500 each.
We fit three methods: K-tip (keratin bond), I-tip (micro ring) and weft. We do not fit tape-ins, and we explain why below.
K-tip (keratin bond)
Individual strands bonded with keratin. Most invisible, lasts 3 to 5 months
$500 to $2,500 full head
Weft
Rows of hair sewn to a tiny braid or beaded track. Fastest to fit, easiest to move up every 6 to 8 weeks
$600 to $1,500
Hair extension consultation
Free, 20 minutes, in person
$0
Removal
Priced by method and amount; bonded removal takes longer
on consultation
All hair is 100% Remy human hair from Great Lengths or Bellami. Hair quality is the biggest cost driver and the biggest reason extensions look real and last.
Extensions grow out with your own hair, so they need moving up. Budget for it from day one.
Weft move-up
Every 6 to 8 weeks
$300 to $500
K-tip re-bond
Every 3 to 5 months; hair is removed and re-tipped
on consultation
Toner or gloss on extensions
Optional, keeps the blend perfect
from $59
Skipping maintenance is where damage happens: tangling, matting and strain on your own hair. If you cannot commit to the move-up schedule, weft is the most forgiving method.
Fine or thin hair: K-tip small sections, so the bonds hide and the weight is spread. We often use fewer, lighter pieces. Read extensions for fine hair.
Thick hair wanting length: weft gives the most hair for the money.
Active or outdoorsy: K-tip bonds are the most secure for swimming, skiing and sweating.
Why no tape-ins? Tape is cheap to fit but shows through fine hair, slips in heat and needs re-taping every 6 to 8 weeks. In our experience K-tip, and weft give Queenstown clients a better result for the money over a year. If you specifically want tape, we will tell you so at your consultation rather than talk you out of it.
More: tape vs micro ring, how long K-tips last, removing extensions safely.

Yes. K-tip in small, light sections is designed for fine hair. Your consultation will confirm your hair is strong enough to carry them.
It depends on the method and how many pieces. Weft removal is quick; bonded removal takes longer. We price it at consultation and always recommend professional removal to protect your own hair.
